Shirley Dirksen

Hi, my name is Shirley Rosalda Dirksen. I live in Aruba and I am 55 years old.. I gave my life to Jesus Christ on July 4, 1984. It is the most important event in my life. I know thShirley Dirksenat I have been called to do translations and evangelization among women in San Nicolas together with Peter, Madeleine and Jorim.

I have some experience in doing this work, because I went to San Nicolas to evangelize among addicts and to hand out bread every Saturday from 1995 to 1997.

What I would like to say it that I love my job and I am so thankful that I can go out into the streets and share the Gospel, because God loves these people!

I attend the church Iglesia Piedra with pastor Adrie Berg. A young missionary came from the Netherlands in 2005. His name was Peter Hazenoot and he told us that he came to preach the Gospel. He told me about his work among prostitutes in the Netherlands and I immediately thought: “that is something really great!”. It was not until 2008 that the pastor came to ask me if I wanted to join them to San Nicolas to translate and to help set up things there. This is what I am doing now and I love it with all my heart!

I would like to tell you about something that really touched me when I was visiting a girl together with Peter, Madeleine and Dirk van der Voet. She had called us because she had a dream she wanted to share with us. she told us about a nightmare she had that frightened her a lot and she knew that pastor Peter and the missionaries could tell her about Jesus Christ.  This confirmed to her that this work was not good for her and that she had to quit immediately. Her dream frightened her and it made her clear that she could have anything in this world and still go to hell or serve Jesus and have eternal life.

We gave her a Bible and we prayed for her. This touched her so much and it changed her life.

The reactions of the girls are positive. When I first went to visit them, I thought they would act very seductively towards the pastor. However, they are aware of their situation and they listen to the Gospel. These young women are grateful for our presence and I’m am thankful for that!

If it’s God’s will, I hope to work for Him fulltime in the future. I long for this day to come and I can hardly wait. I could translate when pastor Peter gives a sermon and when we are among these women. God knows when that time will come. It is a joy to serve God this way. Halleluja!
